Calpe is a cycling paradise. It is the area of the Costa Blanca, right in the middle of Alicante and Valencia.
This area has a mini climate with well over 300 sunny days a year.
Almost all pro, semi pro, continental and clubteams have their training camps in this area.
The tarmac is smooth, the climbs like the Coll de Rates are doable and there are many cycling cafes to be visited.
No wonder popularity of the region grows hard!

Looking for a winter escape diving into the pro peloton?
We visit at least one cycling cafe of the pros every day.

Day 2

Sunday, January 18

Cumbre del Sol and Benidorm Cross

After a delicious breakfast, we prepare for the first ride in these great surroundings.

You have two options: a short one and go to the cyclocross of Benidorm afterwards. Or a longer ride. Of course we will visit a cycling café on the ride.

Both options have a steep climb to Cumbre del Sol as highlight, where Tom Dumoulin won a Vuelta stage in 2025.

The Pro Loop

Next up is a long and beautiful day. One of the most popular loops amongst the pros. We will definitely spot a lot of them today! The start will lead us slowly up to Parcent from which we conquer the Coll de Rates. The descent is smooth and nice into the town of Altea. Here we stop at the most visited cycling café by the pros. We follow the coastline back to the hotel.

Castell de Castells

Another famous loop to the town with a typical name: Castell de Castells. This brings us to the other side of Coll de Rates. At the top, you have the option to conquer the steep last 3km to the Tossals dels Diners, mostly referred to as Super Coll de Rates.

After a lovely descent we stop at the cycling café, before going back to the hotel.

Rest day is here! And what do pros do on a rest day? They take their bike for an easy spin. Where? To the café of course!

We follow the coast line to a very doable climb: Montgo. This climb is nice, the descent makes it lovely. Be careful if the wind is strong here!

Day 6

The most beautiful climb!

Time for the next famous and often said the most beautiful climb of this region: Vall d’Ebo. The road curves up with views over the sea and the area. Enjoy!

After this climb a few short and steep sections await. Then the hard work is done and it’s mostly down to the café and hotel!

Day 7

Great views

The last day of riding and there are still two really nice climbs to cross of our list. This route starts south by the coast. Between Moraira and Calpe we start climbing up Fustera. Once we’re close to Jalón, the Bèrnia climb awaits. Both offer great views. Be careful on Bèrnia if the wind is strong. The descent can be a bit bumpy. We stop at a Belgian cycling café where we can order in Dutch if you like.
