“I don't want everyone else to have to wait for me on every mountaintop.”
I was a boy of ten when I, Jeroen Hop, watched breathlessly as Lance Armstrong looked over his shoulder and then disappeared on the steep slopes of the legendary Alpe d'Huez. In January 2012, the same boy was in a coach driving up a mountain in Mallorca. I didn't know where it came from, but suddenly I was overcome by the feeling that I wanted to conquer this mountain on a bicycle.
I bought a second-hand Giant racing bike – which was actually much too small for me – and went for short rides whenever the sun shone. It was 2017 when I started working at a consultancy firm that organized an annual cycling trip to the mountains. I really wanted to join, but my first thought was: 'I don't want everyone else to have to wait for me on every mountain top.' At that moment a new passion was born: a hobby full of training, improvement, attention to nutrition and materials. In September 2019 we left for the magical Dolomites and I fell in love immediately.
In 2022 I decided to pursue my dream and quit my office job. In January 2023, I suddenly found myself in a cycling hotel in Denía for a training camp with the TDT-Unibet Pro Cycling Team. As logistics manager, it was my job to ensure that the team was perfectly equipped so that they could fully focus on their performance. After this experience I knew for sure: I want to share my enthusiasm for cycling in the mountains with as many people as possible. Ride Up with me!
